  1. i had a similar problem but i had to buy an external ethernet link (an adapter) to connect to the internet.then i installed the ethernet drivers to my computer. so i got rid of the adapter and connected the ethernet directly to the computer.

you probably dont have the ethernet drivers installed thats why it just wont connect until you install the drivers.

  2. Enable the ethernet connection in network connections.

  3. Couple of thoughts:

Do you have a driver for the ethernet card on your PC ?

And, when the ethernet cable is connected, go to a web page when it says it can't be displayed, click on allow Windows to detect network settings.

  4. Disconnect your USB cable. Plug in your ethernet cord from your modem to your computer.

Open your Network Connections...(control panel, and network connections) (you may have to click "Switch To Classic View")

In this window, there should be a list of all the ways your computer can connect to the internet...

Find where it says Local Area Connection. It probably says "Disabled" below it. If so, right click it, and click Enable. Once connected, check if you have internet. If not, open your Network Connections again, right click the thing you just enabled, and click Repair....

If it isnt listed in you Network Connections, then your networking card might not be installed, or might be broken
