  1. Your car has a governer at 115mph.  This means that it will not excede that speed.  It is possible to remove the governer, but it may be illegal and will certainly void your warranty.  If you're really set on going faster than 115, ask around at some local repair shops.  One of the employees will probably know how to do it, although it would most likely have to be done outside of work as most shops wont remove a governer.

  2. Your probably hitting the top speed governor, aka top speed limiter. It basically computer controls the top speed you can hit, so on your charger its likely around 115mph, so when you hit that speed, the cars computer systems wont let you go any faster. This isn't just because they don't want you to go that fast, its more about your own safety and what the car is built for. They don't want you going 120mph+ if they know the car isn't going to handle it very well. Many cars sold today have a top speed governor, so its not just Dodge or anything.

Why are you trying to go that fast anyways? Unless your using this as a legal track car (which i'm guessing your not) i wouldn't recommend driving that fast in a Dodge Charger. I don't think you'll handle any faster that well, its not the SRT8 version. The engine and the rest of the car isn't meant to be going that fast.

I see a lot of cars actually getting damaged from owners trying to "max" them out. Just because your car can go 100mph+ doesn't mean it should. On a new car the last thing you should be doing is abusing the engine like that so early.

The governor is there to help save your life, there's a reason its set at 115mph. Remove it and you'll void your warranty. I honestly hope your not trying to max out your new car, your putting your life and possibly the lives of innocent people at risk, as well as doing nothing but wasting gas and possibly damaging your engine. Have you ever seen what happens if you get a ticket for driving over 100mph? Good luck with that.

  3. your car might have a speed limiter, but u should be able to tune your ecu to unleash the beast!

  4. you need to boost your horse power use quakerstate oil

trust me i maxed 110 before it and i max 135 now

    i have a infiniti g35 stock

  5. It's to save your life and that of other road users who have to share the roads with dead heads who shouldn't have a licence.

  6. That is way over the speed limit so why worry about it.

  7. Its because you have a Governor.

  8. The factory puts a Governor on it witch restricks the car from going over that speed! I think u can get a aftermarket chip for it that would allow u to go faster but if u do it can sometimes cut ur warrenty in half!

  9. governed from the factory.

    it's a big brother thing.

also pressure put on car manufactures by insurance companies.

  10. why do you want it to go any faster?

just take it to this place called "Big Boys Toys" and maybe they can change it.

search it on google and I think its in Maryland somewhere.

EDIT: thanks for all the thumbs down.  I guess this question wasnt for girls......

  11. The people who said your car is governed are right.

One of the main reasons a car is governed is because of the speed rating of the stock tires. If the stock tires are "T" rated, the manufacturer isn't going to sell a car that can exceed that limit.

There may be mechanical reasons for that too. Lots of cars and motorcycles have rev limiters to keep you from abusing your engine too.

  12. You need to floor it

  13. it's probably governed.

  14. That seems about right. How fast did you think t would go? It's not very aerodynamic, and that engine is adequate for normal driving, but is no race engine. You're better off. That's faster than you need to go, and get's better mileage then the Hemi, while looking just as good. The best of all worlds.

  15. The computer is set to so your car won't go over that speed. Same as on my Dodge 4.7 115 mph. Someone may give you advise on how to modify the chip. have a good day.
