Why wont my car radio remember anything when i turn my car off?

i recently bought a radio for my car and got it installed and it works fine. i set all the radio stations i like and set the clock. i turned my car off when i got somewhere and later turned my car back on. the radio did not turn on. so pushed the on button and it did not remember anything i had set. none of the channels were remembered that i set and the clock was not what i set it for either....i dont know whats wrong with it. help please

  1. i think it's the orange wire for memory--------red wire is to power


  2. its hooked up wrong...it should be hooked into power all the time to hold the presets and clock. I'm awful at hooking up radios, but I would look for the power from the radio (red wire) and hook it into the battery fuse opening.Hot always

  3. Depending on the Brand, But generally this is the case. The RED wire should be connected to an ignition circuit. So when the key is turned off the radio will also turn off. The YELLOW wire should be hooked to a constant power supply. Which maintains the radio presets. hope this is of help.

  4. You probably wired it through the key switch instead of the one that keeps some juice going to the radio so the memory stays active.
