Question:

Why wont my cars CD player play CD's?

For some reason my car will only play CD's when the accessories to the car are on. As soon as I start the car, and the CD tries to play, an Error 3 come up which means "the pick up focus is off because of a scratched disc or some other factor during source unit play" which doesnt make sense considering that they will play when the accessories are on and most of the CD's i try are brand new.

It has been suggested that my CD player is hooked up wrong, but I have got a few CD's to play while the car is running. So if it was hooked up wrong shouldnt no CD work when the car is on? And it is the same couple of CD's that will eventually work everytime.

I just dont understand it! Can anyone help?

  1. it could be something interfering with your player fox example the alternator, but i dnt know what else is hooked up, or it can be the cd player its self

  2. hi there, please ask a specialist in car audios to check the wiring for your car audio thoroughly again. See that there is no loose connection anywhere or the wires are not leaning/pressed onto sharp metal edges anywhere in the car. Most probably looks like a wiring problem or loose contact which explains why they play sometimes and they do not at other times. NOTE: It would be wise to avoid starting/switching off the car with the audio on. Power off the audio system and then start/switch off car. Also check CD audio format compatibility with your player sometimes certain formats are not supported. Maybe some songs are in MP3 and the others in some other format. Hope this helps...
