Why wont my cats come in the front room anymore?

Question

My cats have got the cat flap with the magnets so no other cats can come in the house. But there is another cat in the neighbour hood who has one too, and I'm sure he has been in the house. My cats come in and they are so scared, they peer round the door, sniff, and run off out the cat flap even if its raining. I don't think that other cat has sprayed in here cause you would smell it. I have used shake and vac, washed everything down and still they wont come in. What can i do??!!!!

Theyre obviously frightened of something, if a tom has been in youre better off wiping everything down with white vinegar, that will totally get rid of the smell, they can smell things we cant.

Hello,i would lock the cat flap,so that would make sure that no other cat can get in. Then i would again check cushions,settee etc,washing covers and maybe spraying with Feliway.You can't be certain that any cat has been in,they have great noses! Also,don't forget to wash and spray the cat flap. Good luck.x

I don't really know how to answer this, as I haven't owned a cat before.

But since I read that you've washed everything, I won't suggest this.

Maybe you should try helping them come in. I'm not suggesting hypnotizing them, because that's just rubbish. I think that you should

put your cats food & drink in the front room & put their toys & treats in them. But if they go days without food because they won't come in,

then put them back outside. Maybe you've put some new furniture

in there & they find it freaky? Maybe something's happened in there & they're scared to come in? Try picking them up & taking them in there,

& a stroke or two can't hurt! But if they scratch you then just let them

down.

since you have carpet, steam clean the floors and do the furniture too. Just because you can't smell the other cat that may have or have not been in there, your cats can. Steam clean everything you can to get "rid" of the other cat smell. Then entice your kitties to come in the room with some catnip.
