  1. Possibly too much stuff inside it.  Or - here is something you can try... fully open the door and using a hair dryer heat up the door seal all the way around, close the door and prop in position - leave for five minutes.  This should allow the seal to match any irregularities.

The best way to check if the freezer is standing properly is to test with a spirit level, All freezers have ajustable feet you can wind in or out to accomodate humps and bumps in the floor.

Make sure yo have some ice cream inside the freezer, I love ice cream and may call around to help you.  great way to welcome me, with a dish of ice cream..................

  2. Check the ice again.  It maybe food.  Maybe too much food is stuck in there causing it not to shut.

  3. I'm fairly sure the door isn't closing right.

Most commonly there is something somewhere hitting the door and holding it slightly open. It can be hard to find sometimes, like a tall item on a shelf on the door (barely) hitting a shelf inside when you close it.

I usually determine that by listening for it hit as I close it.

Next, and more so with freezers, but also with refrigerators, is the level. If it is in the garage they are often not level. The cabinets over time will "adjust" to match the floor. Then they are no longer square and the doors hang low and will leave a gap.

I usually test for this by pushing on the corners of the cabinet. i.e. on the right side push to the left and vice versa. Sometimes simply adjusting the feet or a shim under a low foot in the rear will square up the cabinet and the door closes properly eliminating the gap. I made that adjustment MANY many times.

In those cases a new seal doesn't help. You shouldn't need a new seal unless it is torn.

In a few cases the door is now warped or a little twisted. This happens more often if people open it by grabbing at the top and not using the handle. This pulls the top out of shape.

But I can't tell you definitively without seeing it myself.

    Good Luck.

  4. Is it a chest type freezer?  If the lid doesn't close properly it has been warped at the hinges in some manner.  Do you remember any time that the lid was forced open too far?

If it's a standup freezer, the same problem could apply if the door was forced open too far at some time.

  5. My freezer has the same problem, the seal around the edge of the door is probably damaged.

  6. the seals on the door go hard after time and contract, just go round the doorseal and "tease it apart"and clean out any dirt in the folds as these hold moisture and can freeze together
