Why wont my laptop detect my cd rom drive....its a sony vaio xp laptop...anyone help?

try using a CD cleaner the lens might be dirty

well there is no cut dry explination some times its that the drivers are interupeted try unloading it and then reloading the drivers first thats the most obvious place to start

restart yr laptop it should work for now go to device manager and see if its installed propeley

Its probably just the driver needs updating for the cd rom, find the make and model (not necessarily Sony) go to their website (or Google it) find the driver, install it and that should sort it.

set the boot sequence to boot from cd/dvd first not the hdd

it seems that you have lost your cd rom driver soft ware

try loading your recovery discs
