  1. You need to cover their cages.I have had parakeets for over 40 years and have always covered their cages at night.Perhaps you need to get them a different, plain, unpatterned cover. You also need to cover their cage slowly and talk to them calmly, wishing them a pleasant night. Birds are like people in that they wake up during the night to eat or drink or scratch, but they manage to get their rest.Birds need 10-13 hours of dark rest a night.

  2. Do you have a cat that prowls around at night, or can they see car lights from a street. Check their surrounding area. Or maybe you are blocking out too much light. A blanket is pretty heavy.  A dark sheet, or any covering that is light weight is better than a heavy blanket. Try putting them in a different room, not the kitchen, or a closet. You will probably just have to keep trying different things. Birds do need 8 to 12 hrs sleep. How do you know they are getting only 1 hr of sleep are you staying up with them? They may be getting more sleep that you think.

  3. That's odd that they go crazy when you cover them.  Most find it very calming.  How many do you have and how big is their cage?  Are they overcrowded or fighting over perches?

  4. BLANKET they will go crazy at firrst cus it new

  5. I was going to say put a blanket on the cage but since that didn't work try putting them in a closet (leave it open enough for air vent.) or put them in a room at night where its slightly dark where no one is present.
