why wont my pregnant platy fish eat and it also seems so calm like it does not swim it just stays in the same place for long periods of time also how many babys will she have on average

when females are about to go into labor they wont eat till they have all the babys

She is probably going into labor1 If you want to save the babies, move the female into another tank, or a breeding net, or a breeding trap and then raise the fry either in the breeding net or in another tank. She will eat again once all the fry are born. She will have between 20-50 fry, the largest litter I have heard of was 56 fry.
