Why wont my son say mama?

it is interesting because he can say everything else, but mama.. why is that? someone told me that maybe its easier to say da da than it is to say mama. what do you think?

i have the same prob. my 12 month old wont say mama. she only says dada i think its cuz like u said its easier to say.

Actually in typical development the cvcv sounds that are first are the bilabials (two lips) these sounds are m, b, p.  That being said not everyone progresses the same way.

most babies  say da da first my son did and now he is 2 and halfand says both

Every child is different. The best advice I can give you is to keep repeating words to your child in order for him/her to grasp it.

Also remember to constantl speak to your child even if he/she cannot talk back.

Tell him to say grand  MA the tell  him to say it without grand two times then he'll say ma ma

it is a lot easier for a baby to say da da .. i guess because it is just the rolling of the tongue. Ma Ma is a little more complicated for them of the way that it is pronounced. If you try saying it to him.. just be like ma ma ma ma ma.. a couple of time a day or something like that he may pick up on it... when my niece was born he dad wasn't really much but when he was they would her daddy loves you.. or da da loves you.. so she picked up on it.. the same thing for ma ma.. and not before long she said it!!

my son didn't say mamma and didn't say it to me till lilke a month ago and he is 15 months.... i was so sad cause he would say da da, ba ba, de de(his babysittier), no, however no mamma... don't worry it will come to him eventually... just keep referring to yourself as mamma when you talk to him and he will learn soon!!! good  luck mommy!!!

Maybe try saying "Mom" or "Mum" or Mommy" try other words that mean the same as Mama. My kids call me all different kinds of names but mostly Mommy.
