  1. some plants initiate flowering only when the length of the night has reached a certain duration---so commonly if there is outside night time artificial lighting this inhibits certain growth phases

    this is how certain plants determine what 'season' it is without having to use temperature as a guide

    although most domestically grown crops often have this 'bred out'---- hope this helps


  2. They need plenty of sunlight and water. It could also be from poor soil.  You should fertilize them.  Also, sometimes the plants flower, but don't develop tomatoes. In this case, you can get a spray at a gardening center that causes the fruit to set.
