Why wont the code work for Sims 2 PC?

I have a Vista Laptop and I installed the sims 2 on it with no problem (after installing sp1 for Vista first). The game runs fine, but when I try to enter a cheat code it wont work. I push cntrl+shift+c but nothing happens. I have tried repeatedly and it just wont work. I tried changing the compatibility mode and it still wont work. I have tried the reverse shift+cntrl+c as some one suggested but that didn't work either. Any ideas?
