Why wont the shutter on my nikon d40 work?

I just bought a nikon d40 dslr and i dont have a lens for it yet but shouldnt the shutter work even though there is no lens?

  1. Yes the shutter should work however, the manual will show you what buttons to press to se the camera to default (factory settings) if you accidently set the camera to a special program setting. You must also charge the battery for a full 90 minutes before using in the camera.


  2. The SHUTTER is normally inside the LENS case, and the aperture size is marked round the edges.

  3. It would, except that digital camera makers put in safety locks so the cameras don't operate unless the memory card is inserted, the battery is charged, and there's a lens attached.

  4. Opening the shutter without a lens is just asking to get dust on your sensor.

    If you need to open the shutter to gently blow away some dust later, there are instructions in your cameras manual that will tell you exactly how to do that.
