I have a 2004 ford taurus with a stock stereo and the sound went out- the car place said the amplifier may be blown-how do you change it or how do you check to see if it is a blown wire.

  1. Chances are your wires are fine. Check the fuses. If your car has an amp thats not built in to the head unit it may have a fuse you would want to check.

  2. Check the fuse for the radio in the fuse box.The stock radio has a built in amplifier. In other words they are the same unit.If the fuse is good and the radio has never worked since you bought the car,The previous owner blue out the radio or the speakers.Check the wiring and back shore it's all plugged in.To do this you will have to tear the dash and the door panels apart. If all the weirs are hoked up,unplug one of the speakers and plug the weirs into a spear speaker you know is good.If you still don't have sound at the speaker. You need a new radio.Buy one with a new set of speaker since you have the door panels off pout the new ones in.The old ones probably have a radial in them,If you get sound out of the sear speaker, replace the old ones. When throwing parts at a problem.Start with the cheapest and work your way up.
