Why wont watermelons grow ?

i bought a small plant planted it it grew quick then a watermelon started now its about the size of a soft ball and some baseball sizes and some really small ones the really small ones keep falling off the biggest won stopped growingand the bottoms are squishy i fertilize it water it wats wrong with it

  1. they have 2 grow in realy hot places, and must have a lot of water - they may not grow depending on where u live


  2. There are quite a few virus and fungus caused blights and rots that watermelons are susceptible to.  Do the plants themselves appear normal?  Cold weather could be a factor.  Take a sample to your garden store or nursery and maybe they can help out.
