Why would 2 cops and a social worker show up at midnight looking for someone?

Two police officers and a social worker showed up to my dad's house looking for him a bit past midnight. He wasn't home, and we have absolutely no idea why a social worker would have a reason to go by looking for him in the middle of the night...

Could it be past-due child support (from over 10 years ago)? But if that was the case, wouldn't they send him a letter first?

  1. Most people are in the bed by midnight so that is a good time to serve a warrant or just to locate someone at home. I like the early morning hours myself. I plucked many a criminal out of their bed after 3-4am. I do not know of any law enforcement agency that sends out notices that they will be at your house at midnight to lock your butt up. The social worker could be riding along for some type of training and not after your father. We used to have a ride-along program and people from all walks fo life would request to ride with their officers for a day or night.

  2. A social worker would not be needed to speak to your father about back child support. Additionally, there is no way that a social worker is coming out to a house at midnight to deal with financial issues. I can think of couple of reasons they might have shown up though. 1. He has a child in his custody and shouldn't have/or was unfit to have. 2. Someone was worried about his mental/emotional state, perhaps he has had issues taking care of himself. As far as a pickup on a warrant, even low risk ones, I haven't heard of social workers being brought along.

  3. No they won't send him a letter. They will suspend his license and then take him to jail, it is against the law not to pay you know. But it might not even be for that.
