Why would Amarillo, Austin, and Big-ben an danger zone for earthquakes?

  1. Not really. In the US, the most in danger are California and Missouri. Texas is more likely to be hit by hurricanes and tornadoes. Check your geological map. But remember: anything's possible.


  2. Amariilo lies on a range of buried mountains called the "Amarillo mountains" and the layers slip now and again causing shifting that could lead to a minor fault or earth quake. There were 3 or 4 minor eathquakes back in 2000 felt in Amarillo... ...

  3. Amarillo has an underground mountain range with a small, related fault-line.  I used to live there and we had several small earthquakes in 2000.  The link about them is below.

    Austin has only had one recorded earthquake since records were kept.  Don't know the reason for it, but the area used to be active thousands of years ago due to the Balcones Escarpment.

    Big-ben and parts of west Texas may have an occassional small earthquake mainly due to either oil drilling or the balcones escarpment also.
