  1. The case of the files being left on a train would be reported because the press is the public watchdog.  When government fails to perform for the public -- as in this case of mishandling classified materials -- the people should know about the incident.

    Easy to also note that the BBC did not divulge any classified information from the files.  

    To not report government misdeeds would be unethical and unprofessional -- sort of like the U.S. press not reporting the missing nuke flight on the B-52 or the nuclear fuse parcels sent to Taiwan as helicopter batteries (the two top leaders in the U.S. Air Force were forced to resign).

    Nations cannot be secure if governments do not take security seriously.  The news media cannot be part of a cover up of blunders that the public would want corrected.
