Why would Edwards have an affair with Rielle Hunter?

I just don't get it. Adultery I get. But Hunter just seems like, well, trash, plus crazy. A conniving, manipulative, social climbing parasite. Why would a guy care about her so much that he'd risk everything for her?

I have no idea why he would pick this woman....a note to JOhn D who answered you...I dont think that RIelle Hunter is prettier than Elizabeth Edwards....I worked with Elizabeth Edwards 10 years ago, and in person she is a beautiful woman..so smart,     no one will ever be able to explain to me why someone would risk everything....for a piece of ***

  3. I don't get why anyone would have an affair, period. He chalks that part up to his personal narcissism and impulsivity, and that seems plausible. I don't imagine he was thinking much about risks. As for the personal assessment - neither of us knows either of them, and I'd guess his impression of her is more favorable than yours.

  7. Yes hes a sleeze ball for doing it. But she is prettier than his wife. Hes probably had many others & just got caught this time.

  10. It's real common. You'd figure people smart enough to get where they were and with that much at risk wouldn't be so dumb. In some of those cases, it's the power thing. When people kiss your butt all day, it can be easy to start acting like everything you do is okay. And, of course, there's no end of opportunities.
