Why would Exxon be leaving the gas station buisness if it created such 'record profits?'?

Just curious what you conspiracy theorists think because gasoline sales has a very low profit margin. Thanks.

  1. The profit is in the refining and distribution not the retail end.  The final seller get s a markup of about 10 cents a gallon and has to pay operating costs out of that not a good ROI.   Also, remember the government gets more per gallon in taxes than the refiner makes in profit.


  2. As one person said, the gas stations don't make that much money off the gas.  That's why their getting out of the market.  If people really want to complain about price markups, they should look at Apple computers, way too much markup there.
