My mum died recently from Leukemia, after a 2 year battle. she was only 45, and one of the kindest most caring people i have ever met. she was also a firm Christian, and went to church every week. Why would an all loving all powerful God cause this, or not prevent her from passing away?

How can theists still believeve in a God when so much evil and suffering goes on around Him??

(and pleasdon'tnt talk about Free Will being the problem and not God, because Mum never chose this)

  1. hope for something better. do you have it?

  2. spiderlungs, im sorry about your mum, it must be awful for you all, you have my condolences and my thoughts

i can not answer that for you

all i can say is if there is a god, which i personally dont believe there is, im sure he has his reasons, i dont necessarily agree with them, but that doesnt change that he has them

im sure your mum passing has reasons that we dont fully know or understand

, we all have our place in this life, maybe, her 'purpose' had been fulfilled and now it was her time to leave, and who knows, maybe shes moved on to soemthing else now

again, im sorry for your loss, you are stronger than you may realise and feel at this time, you will make it through this and you will come out stronger and tougher and with more understanding, even if it doesnt feel like you understand it for a long time afterward

  3. My condolences for your mother, but you sound very arrogant.  God, the Best Knower, does what He wants to.

  4. You have My Sympathy for the loss of your Mum, I Too Have suffered Loss with My father who died 5 years ago, and My Cousin who was only 18 had died of Leukemia His name was Keith.

Why would an all loving all powerful God cause this ?

I think that the answer is two-fold. One, ultimately, no one is innocent. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23) and are by nature children of wrath (Eph. 2:3). There is none innocent. Though this is biblically accurate, it does not satisfy the question emotionally. Why do little babies suffer for things they have not done? I must acknowledge that I do not know. Ultimately, we must trust God who knows the beginning from the end and sees the grand picture. He will have the final word and He will be vindicated.

Suffering is the result of human sin. The world is not the way that God created it and because of that, all are vulnerable to the affects of sin in the world. Why does one person suffer and another does not? Why do catastrophes happen to some and no others? It is because sin is in the world. But there will come a day when the Lord will return and cleanse this world of all sin and all suffering.

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Rev. 21:4).

  5. How can you be sure if your mom isnt in a better place right now? Remember God has power over all things and God does as He pleases.

  6. As an atheist, I find a great deal of error in the so-called "problem of evil."

    Think about this:

If your mother did not suffer, how could you have ever learned to comfort her?

If your mother was never ill, how could you have ever learned to heal her?

If your mother was never sad, how could you have ever learned to make her laugh?

The funny thing about evil and suffering is that it brings out the best in those of us willing to do something about them.  So no, I don't see the problem of evil as a valid dispute with the existence of a deity.  No, I don't believe in a deity, but I have far more sound philosophical justifications than, "I don't understand so blah..."

After all, the deity in the Bible flat out says, "Yea, I who createth good and maketh evil, I who do ALL these things."  The problem of evil only works against an omnibenevolent deity, but not against one who openly admits being the source of good AND evil.

  7. These ardent believers were indoctrinated at an early age and it is very difficult to show them that they are under the influence of religious mind control. The Religious Virus has totally wiped out their common sense.

  8. I'm so sorry for your loss,my Grandmother passed away last december shortly before Christmas.I never got the chance to say goodbye to her,the closest thing to that was the morning after Thanksgiving she had stayed over and wanted to make breakfast for everybody,so we spent all morning and most of the afternoon chatting. That was the last time I saw her,we had made plans to meet a few weeks later to go shopping, but by then she was in the hospital and died two weeks later. Why does God allow it? Life was never meant to be easy and without pain or loss, those things we suffer and call 'evil' allow us to grow and test ourselves and value life and love that much more.Otherwise it would be for nothing and mean nothing. Why would we bother to care or to love,to have compassion if we never have a reason for it? Think about it,life is cruel but life is just.Everything has a balance,it's how it's meant to be.We as human interfere and want to control and change what can't be.It's not in our hands,we have to let go sometime,if we don't that's not living, that's existing. It's the quaility of life is what mantters not the quanitity.Even if only for a few moments that person knew on some level that they were loved, cared for,and would be missed deeply that is worth it.That is what you have to remember what you had together, your memories of her, keep that in your heart and know that she's in a better place.Hope this helps.

  9. The awesome thing is that your mother is with God/the Lord Jesus Christ now. She is in heaven right now with Him and there can be no better place than heaven. It was God's timing for your mother to come to Him. God's intentions were out of love for you and your mother. God's allows His children to suffer for a purpose to bring out His awesome plan and purpose for their lives. God loves you and your mother. Jesus Christ also loves you and your mother. God wants you to continue to live according to His will and plan for your life just like He did for your mother. If you need support and encouragement concerning this, find a church where you can get fellowship and encouragement. Also, you may want to see a Christian counselor who can help.  God bless you my friend!

  10. My deepest and sincerest condolences to you and yours.

  11. Im really sorry about your mom, and to be honest i'd feel the same way. Sometimes we think what's the use of believing in the nice God when he makes people suffer and die.

But i guess God does it because he loves you, and he wants you to be closer to him through your mom's death. It's kind of like a challenge, if you're going to turn your back on him or not. Think about it, instead of having your mom suffer the pain, he takes her so that she wouldn't have to suffer no more. Christians believe that all of us belong to God, and he can take us away whenever he wants unexpectedly.

People who don't believe in God won't have a peaceful life, because they have no one to turn to in bad times.

I know that this is hard for you to deal with, especially because she died young. But again i guess God wants you to ask him to help you to stay strong. :) a bit corny i guess

  12. SB 9.24.58 P Krsna the Supreme Personality of Godhead

Materialistic men sometimes ask why God has created the material world for the suffering of the living entities. The material creation is certainly meant for the suffering of the conditioned souls, who are part of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as confirmed by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gita (15.7):

                           mamaivamso jiva-loke

                          jiva-bhutah sanatanah

                          manah sasthanindriyani

                          prakrti-sthani karsati

"The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal, fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind." All the living entities are part and parcel of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and are as good as the Lord qualitatively, but quantitatively there is a great difference between them, for the Lord is unlimited whereas the living entities are limited. Thus the Lord possesses unlimited potency for pleasure, and the living entities have a limited pleasure potency. Anandamayo 'bhyasat (Vedanta-sutra 1.1.12). Both the Lord and the living entity, being qualitatively spirit soul, have the tendency for peaceful enjoyment, but when the part of the Supreme Personality of Godhead unfortunately wants to enjoy independently, without Krsna, he is put into the material world, where he begins his life as Brahma and is gradually degraded to the status of an ant or a worm in stool. This is called manah sasthanindriyani prakrti-sthani karsati. There is a great struggle for existence because the living entity conditioned by material nature is under nature's full control (prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani sarvasah). Because of his limited knowledge, however, the living entity thinks he is enjoying in this material world. Manah sasthanindriyani prakrti-sthani karsati. He is actually under the full control of material nature, but still he thinks himself independent (ahankara-vimudhatma kartaham iti manyate). Even when he is elevated by speculative knowledge and tries to merge into the existence of Brahman, the same disease continues.

Aruhya krcchrena param padam tatah patanty adhah (Bhag. 10.2.32). Even having attained that param padam, having merged into the impersonal Brahman, he falls again to the material world.

In this way, the conditioned soul undergoes a great struggle for existence in this material world, and therefore the Lord, out of compassion for him, appears in this world and instructs him. Thus the Lord says in Bhagavad-gita (4.7):

                          yada yada hi dharmasya

                          glanir bhavati bharata

                         abhyutthanam adharmasya

                          tadatmanam srjamy aham

"Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion--at that time I descend Myself." The real dharma is to surrender unto Krsna, but the rebellious living entity, instead of surrendering to Krsna, engages in adharma, in a struggle for existence to become like Krsna. Therefore out of compassion Krsna creates this material world to give the living entity a chance to understand his real position. Bhagavad-gita and similar Vedic literatures are presented so that the living being may understand his relationship with Krsna. Vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyah (Bg. 15.15). All these Vedic literatures are meant to enable the human being to understand what he is, what his actual position is, and what his relationship is with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is called brahma-jijnasa. Every conditioned soul is struggling, but human life provides the best chance for him to understand his position. Therefore this verse says, anugrahas tan-nivrtteh, indicating that the false life of repeated birth and death must be stopped and the conditioned soul should be educated. This is the purpose of the creation.

The creation does not arise whimsically, as atheistic men think.

                          asatyam apratistham te

                           jagad ahur anisvaram

                           aparaspara-sambhutam

                         kim anyat kama-haitukam

"They say that this world is unreal, that there is no foundation and that there is no God in control. It is produced of s*x desire and has no cause other than lust." (Bg. 16.8) Atheistic rascals think that there is no God and that the creation has taken place by chance, just as a man and woman meet by chance and the woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a child. Actually, however, this is not the fact. The fact is that there is a purpose for this creation: to give the conditioned soul a chance to return to his original consciousness, Krsna consciousness, and then return home, back to Godhead, and be completely happy in the spiritual world.

  13. i am so sorry. she's at peace now. things happen for a reason hun. i can't tell you because i don't know. my faith in God will always be strong and this coming from someone who's been throu a lot

  14. I'm very sorry for your loss.  Her suffering is over.  An untimely death is hard to bear.  My Mom died at 39.

  15. I am a Christian as well, and I hope I can give you the best answer I can think of.  The Bible says that it rains on the just, and the unjust (Matt 5:45) It also says the sun rises on the evil and good. Ever wonder why it seems like some people have everything they want, but they are mean, and selfish, and sometimes involved in horrible crimes.  Why does it seem like they get rewarded ,but good people have to suffer loss? It's because God doesn't have respect of persons. If that was the case, Jesus would have died peacefully in his sleep very comfortable at some Mediteranean resort.  He doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that we are promised to have a comfortable, long life, and an easy death. It does promise that He will never forsake us, and that if we do the right thing, no matter what and believe in Him, that we will have everlasting life.   That means that no matter how good a person you are, or how bad, you live on this earth and things happen.  Just because God is real, doesn't mean that nothing bad will ever happen.  When bad things happen, he sends comfort and strength.  My grandmother was a devout Christian, and my father, her son, was murdered right after I was born.  My mother had the same questions you do.  She didn't understand why this happened. I am now much older, and I realized through experience that God knows what he is doing, and everything does happen for a reason, even though you may not see it now.  My life turned out very different than it would have if my father had lived. Sometimes God let's things happen because with out trials and tribulation, some people would never draw near to him.  He may have allowed your mother to go through this because it kept her close to Him, and it apparently has you very curious about Him, and what His purpose is. God is like that.  He will take a horrible situation, and in it, you will find strength and experience that you never thought you had in you.  And it will hurt for a while, but you have to know He knows better than we do, and He doesn't find joy in our pain, but He does promise us that if we believe in Him and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, that when we do die, we can be with Him, and there will be no tears.  You mum is in a way better place now, and she has no pain, and she gets to ask all the questions she ever had.  You may not believe me, but crack open your Bible.  Even if you don't know where to start, just open it, and I am sure you will find some answers you are looking for.
