Why would I be put at Defensive End

Okay, so I'm in high school and played spring my freshman year (14 days of practice) and that's all I have behind me. At that time I was last resort utility. Over the summer I went to all the workouts (only like 1 of 6 to actually show up) but that still doesn't change that im inexperienced. I was listed as a DB/RB even though I was really utility but now coach said he wants me as a DE. Now that sounds great and all and I understand respect his decision. But what could he possible have seen in me to put me there? If you want to know why I'm curious, I'm about 6'0 and 145 lbs. Could it be agility? speed? maybe he saw I had strength for my current frame and expects to see huge increase through training with the linemen? What could there possible be to put me at a DE and not only that but he called me and asked me if I was ready to try at DE and potentially be starting? This isn't out of disrespect for his decision at all, I am just curious at what reason he could have behind this decision. Thanks

  1. at defensive end you dont need to be huge look at jason taylor hes not huge anyways dont take this personally it might be cus ur not that good and if you are just give it time h**l see your potential at wwhat position he thinks your best at.

  2. many people look at DE as just another lineman

    wrong

picture yourself as an agressive linebacker who isnt afraid of working in the trenches

you will find that just because you are a lineman you will be having all of the fun of any other "skill player" it is a crucial position and its a really fun position to play, not to mention containing the outside is quite possible the most important defensive role

  3. Now, coaches look for tall lean guys, but still with some muscle at DE. Seeing how you were originally a RB, you should burst right through the O line and get in the backfield a lot. It might be the position for you.

  4. Speed and pass rushing ability. Most DE's are speedy guys not bulky like the DT's. In 8th grade football my coach put a 5'2 110 lbs guy at DE because he could get to the QB

  5. ***** how da heck r we supposed to kno if we neva seen u play
