Last night I had a dream about a boyfriend I had in high school. I woke up this morning and had no idea where the heck that dream came from.

Do you know why I dreamt about someone I haven't seen, talked to, or even really thought of in years?

Strange.

  1. It occurred to you, that's all. Subconscious mind is more powerful than you think or realize.

  2. Perhaps that was a happy carefree time for you and you have happy memories of him.

It depends also what the dream was about and then you might know what it means to you and if it relates to anything in your life now.

  3. Something triggered you. It could have been something so small that you never would have noticed. Maybe you heard a song that you listened to once with him or smelled someone else who uses the shampoo he used when you were together. Something so small that you would have forgotten it until it popped back up in your dream. It's funny how dream associations work. The mind is a funny thing. It may have even been that you started dreaming about something else that lead you to think about high school that lead you to think about him.

Happens to me all the time...usually when I trace back I can figure out why I dreamed about a particular thing.

When we remember our dreams it is usually a sign that we have something we need to work out. Seeing your other question, I wonder if the two are in any way related. I bet if you put your mind to it you can figure it out.

My mother was also a therapist and when I was a teenager I used to always ask her what my dreams meant. She would always turn it back on me and say "what do you think it means to you?" With some prompting I could usually figure out these things for myself. I bet if you put your mind to it you could as well.

  4. maybe it represents a time in your life that you miss or need closure for. Perhaps an emotional issue from that time frame. Perhaps he was a good boyfriend and you wish that your son had that type of guy for a father instead? I would think that it represents feelings about that time in your life

  5. An important thing to keep in mind about the characters you come in contact with or the characters you become in your dream  is to first consider how they represent aspect of your own self. Characters in your dreams also represent unfinished communication with that person and may continue to appear in your dream until the conflict is resolved. Consider also how you know the people your see in your dreams and whether they not acting like themselves.

  6. In dreams one thing often represents another.  Since the boyfriend was in the past, perhaps he represents something to do with your past; an issue, another relationship, something that you are or have need to deal with?

see if any of that may apply.

    hope it helps.

  7. Wow.... I just had a dream about an ex boyfriend the other day also. I haven't thought about him in years or even seen or heard from him for that matter. It was very strange and felt very real and I even felt guilty when I woke up, as if I was cheating on my husband. I didn't like that at all. Anyway, I've found a website that has a dream dictionary and this is what it says on dreaming about ex boyfriends:

  8. I don't know why but I also dream about things that are totally surprising to me. Whether it's people I haven't seen or thought about in forever, situations I find myself in or whatever; most of the time I wake up thinking "WTF?!?!"... It's normal, I wouldn't study the reasoning behind it too much (unless you want to). I think our brain just stores experiences, faces, movies we've watched and whatever it can, and even if we don't consciously think about it, it's always in the brain's subconscious. I hope I'm making sense lol.
