Should I use the Main reefed or the Jibb during inclement weather? I have a roller furling jibb.

  1. If the wind is really blowing hard I like to just put the Jibb up... It makes the boat easier to handle and reduces the risk of broaching....

  2. just the jib for sure.  You wont move as fast, but it is way safer.

  3. well, this depends on what course relative to the wind you're trying to steer..if going across or downwind, yeah, use the jib.....up wind or just jogging along till the squall passes, roll the jib up and get all that flogging canvas out of the way and poke along under a reefed main.....

I don't have an engine in my 35 foot Rhodes.see pic......so when I need to enter and maneuver in a crowded harbor I do it under main alone....I feel it gives me more control and options....although jibing through a harbor sometimes get s exciting!
