What amazes me is how the press gobble up every story released by the McCann's rather than looking through the police reports and fining anything that could possible implicate the McCanns. Also how strange that all these stories emanate from Holland - a country where the McCann's spent some time and still have a number of friends. In reality if a child said that to you wouldn't you call the police immediately and grab the child?

Its possible that the lady who took her told her that from now on she should refer to herself as "Maddie"...children obey out of fear...Surely, the last thing they would want to call her is her own name? A name close enough for her to learn quickly & respond, would naturally be a short form that the media would not recognise...makes sense to me Stormy..

You would have to ask them about that - I find it hard to believe she called herself Madeliene - its a long tricky word for a child to use.

At three years of age, my daughter used to call herself, "Goldilocks". No, that is not her name.  This tale was thrown out of the window over a year ago. Someone is after the Pulitzer Prize for fiction I think.

I don't find the "witness" credible, not because of the "Maddie" thing, but because she never said anything about seeing the child until now. Why didn't she pass this info to the McCanns' private investigators months ago?

It was the person who told this story that said it. Whether this child is fact did say that depends if the person concerned is telling the whole truth or not. As Kate McCann has said that it was not her daughter I suspect some porkies being told here.

Maybe the people who took her, had been calling her that & she had got used to it by then?? It was roughly 6 weeks after the disappearance.

Who knows. Nobody even knows if it was her or not. I would like to know if this travelling circus family bought anything? And if so, what, how did they pay, is there any CCTV on the street by that shop? There are still clues there if it was her.

The Dutch lady said the woman (mother figure) called her by a longer name.  Puzzling.
