Why would McCain choose Palin instead of Kay Hutchinson Bailey?

Yes - if he weren't senile, then he would have chosen Kay Bailey Hutchinson.  But, the man can't even remember how many houses he has.

Because she is 65 and looks even older in interviews and because she is from Texas. If he took someone from Texas the Dems would all start yelling about how she was like Bush.

Hutchison takes a lot of money from oil companies.  I believe, but I'm not positive, that she took more than anybody else.

I think because of Palin's reputation as a corruption fighter. But mostly because Bailey could be viewed as another insider like Biden. Wheras Palin is as far outside the beltway as you can get. Executive, even limited, experience is valuable also.

And yes, as Mojo points out, Palin satisfies  the Christian right. McCain has no shot without that

Kay may be pro-choice, and also she might not pack a gun as frequently as Palin.  

According to the pundits, Palin is supposed to solidify the Rep. "base."

Abortion won't be outlawed by constitutional amendment and Roe v Wade won't be overturned. Amazing how conservatives don't get that.

Only other reason is McCain and Hutchinson hate each other, although that would be a bad reason as well.

Kay BAILEY Hutchison is more moderate where as Palin is very Conservative. I love Palin!

bc John McCain is desperate and this is just a gimmick, the man only met her TWICE BEFORE...can you imagine if McCain dies early in office and Palin becomes president? thats SCARY. I am an Obama supporter, but McCain is ok too, just NO PALIN!

I like Senator Hutchison Bailey, but she is too entrenched in Washington. Palin is a true outsider which is what we need. Plus Palin has actually fought Big Oil...and won!

There are several reasons she wasn't chosen.  Perhaps most importantly is because she and McCain don't get along.  In fact, it appears she doesn't get along with a whole lot of people.  A survey of Capitol Hill staffers recently named her one of the Hill's "meanest Senators".

Even if he had chosen her, chances are she wouldn't have accepted.  She's made no secret of the fact she's planning to run for governor of Texas in the next election.
