Why would a 1989 Chevy silverado start and run with starting fluid and not start without?

  1. it's possible that your fuel pump is done. or you may have water in your gas. I would try a bottle of "HEET" and test your fuel pressure. Need more info, carbuerated of fuel injection. even could be clogged fuel filter.
