Why would a '91 Firebird run hot while sitting still, and the AC is on? ?

  1. 1 . look under the car and see if you sucked up a plastic bag 2. look between condenser and radiator for debri. 3 , change thermostat 4. flush radiator system 5 . change radiator,  


  2. Because there is no air being sucked into or passing through the engine.  

    Also, I know that if car is ever overheating you want to turn OFF the AC.  (Using the AC draws more power.)

    This holds true for all cars, not just '91 Firebirds.

My 91 firebird ran hot until I changed the thermostat.  it is located at the top front center of the engine block where the top radiator hose attaches too.  When the coolant is hot enough the thermostat opens and allows the coolant to circulate through the radiator.  When the coolant is cool, the thermostat closes and stays that way until the temperature rises again, sounds like the thermostat is stuck closed.
