Question:

Why would a Dr suggest doing an endoscopy while also doing a colonoscopy?

  1. Because:

    1. Endoscopy allows visualization of the upper GI tract, while colonoscopy allows for visualizing the lower GI.

    2. The two are very similar procedures and can easily be done together.

    Note that these two procedures are generally considered very low risk. So don't worry.

  2. It's done all the time.  We usually do the upper endoscopy first, and then turn the bed around and do the lower scope.

    One sedation, one recovery, one trip to the office.  No big deal.
