Even radio DJs make public appearances. So, a hot chick would attract more people to see her in person. Plus, if she has a great voice on the radio, it is a win-win situation.

While it's true looks aren't as important on radio as television, if an attractive female, with a good voice and quick mind is willing to start in a smaller market then work up - her progress will be much quicker with less competition than TV. The money won't be as good, at first, but should she make it to a big market the money could be great and the workload and competition not so fierce as it is for attractive women in TV (who are a dime a dozen).

And, contrary to popular belief, radio is far from dead. Radio just needs to learn it's new place in the grand scheme of content provision.
