Could it be the teaching that my Creator is a monster that will torture people for all eternity without end?

Could it be because they believe and follow the so-called apostle Paul over Jesus?

Could it be because half of their religion comes from paganism?

Christians, why do you think a believer would renounce your religion?

  1. Because they fell into sin and refused to repent.

  2. VW has it right.

  3. I had made the final decision to renounce it after I had learnt some history (and about time I did too).

But I never felt Christianity was right for me. I always felt it was being pushed on me.

  4. He wasn't a believer in the first place, by that I mean a saved person who is filled with the Holy Spirit.

  5. All three of those are possibilities...but I think it all boils down to one thing...they never really made the CHOICE to believe!

Instead, they made a DECISION to believe...and the faith they built on that decision was synonymous with the house built on sand. They decided to believe because the information they had at the time seemed to support that decision as being the right decision.  Then they started facing information/evidence/experiences that seemed to contradict their faith...and eventually, the evidence tipped the scales in favor of a different decision being correct!

True faith is a built on the solid rock of a choice...because a choice can't be altered by subsequent evidence. A person that makes a choice to believe never thinks to ask if the choice was correct...as far as they are concerned, the choice was unalterable...a lifetime commitment.  On the other hand, a person that makes a decision to believe based on the evidence they had at the time, continues to collect and evaluate new evidence to make sure they didnt make a mistake.  ...and if God really does have an enemy, wouldn't such people be an attractive target for his propaganda?

  6. Renounce religion all ya want, it's a construct of man, but I don't see how a believer could renounce Jesus or belief in God.  Otherwise they never really believed to begin with ... they didnt' seek Him.

  7. Someone who claims to be a believer and then renounces Jesus Christ would only do that if they were a false convert.  (I don't mean someone who caves when a gun is held to their head, but someone who walks away from their 'faith')

The false teaching of carnal christianity has spread into the church and some people think they can claim Jesus as Savior and not make Him Lord.  Sort of like, I'll take the saving part, but forget about obedience.

Here's a good article on that topic:

  8. Could it be that there is ZERO proof of God?  Could it be that there is no GOD?  Could it be that Christianity doesn't make any logical sense?  There are a number of reasons why someone would renounce Christianit.  When I stopped believing, I did not renounce it, I simply just stopped believe in myths.  The better questionwould be Why would any one belive in Christianity?

  9. A true Christian cannot do that. Counterfeits do it all the time. There is no such thing as a used to be Christian. No one who is born again can ever be unborn.

  10. I think that if a believer renounced Christianity he probably believed in the wrong gospel.
