  1. Contrary to what many people think, the coroner is not a "public servant" per se, but is a law enforcement official. As such information that he obtains from an autopsy is first of all privy to all but law enforcement involved in the case surrounding the autopsy. As such. for the sake of investigations that may involve foul play, the autopsy results can remain secret, at the discretion of law enforcement in order to help in the ongoing investigation of the case.
