Why would a dog off-leash do this?

I was taking my pregnant dog outside to use the bathroom and decided to walk across the street to talk to my neighbors. Well, this family and their male dog chihuahua (which looked like he was around a year old) walking down the street. My dog is due soon so she has some milk in her teats. Well, the dog comes over and was sniffing her like normal dogs do and all of a sudden I realized that he was trying to drink the milk out of her teat. Of course I did not let him because he was not a puppy and wasn't my dog's pup. So why would a weaned dog do such thing? Any suggestions?

It was probably used to doing that since he was a puppy.

Or he might've been thirsty and sensed she was pregnant and knew she had milk in her teats.

If the other dog was still young then it makes sense. Even tho it is weaned it still might have some puppy left in him.

It could be many reasons the smell ect could have attracteed and the dog could likee the taste because it was a pup to once

Oh that is so cute. For sure she remembers drinking like that my dog is 3 now and when he dream sometimes he suckles it is so cute to see him do this. But you had to stop it not good for your pregnant dog. It is natural though nothing to worry about, your dog will be fine.

That's cute.  A walking milk dispenser.  The chi dog was probably younger than you thought.  I have seen many a 6 month olds going for milk on a pregnant dam.  It's the pheramones that exude from her that make all dogs want to be near her.  It's a "protective" want to care for the puppies, too.  My younger females won't leave my older female's litter alone.  She wants to help.

It happens. Its not a behavioral oddity. Many adult dogs can recognize the scent of birthing milk.

Chihuahua's love all beverages from what I can tell. They also get thirsty a lot. He probably thought it unbelievably lucky to find a walking milk dispenser coming down the street. Maybe he was still pretty young and remembered his mom and the good milk he got from her.
