Why would a job take so long to call?

I applied to Sears with a friend and after the interview and all I got the job and they said they would contact me soon after my drug test results came in. So last wednesday I took the test. It's been a week and I haven't heard from them, but yesterday they called my friend and told him to come in.

Why would they contact him and not me if we both when through the process at the same time?

You need to be proactive when trying to get a job, not reactive. Call them and ask - "I wanted to call and check on my application status and drug test results, and if there was anything you needed from me to complete the process." That'll open the "door", and then you can ask further questions. Good luck.
