Why would someone wait their whole life and then commit a crime? Or, how is this rationalized?

  1. he could be losing brain function. You never know

either that or he has never been caught before

  2. He has been doing it all along threw out his whole life, but never got caught. That is why. Either that or he now has a mental illness.

  3. he probably has mechanical problems..like maybe a s***w loose

  4. I think it depends on the state of his mental health.  I myself cannot see a reason for it, but perhaps in his mind, there was.  Such a shame though.

  5. Asking WHY a person would do something is almost NEVER a question that can actually be answered.  Given your COMPLETE lack of specifics, this question is even harder to answer.

  6.     Chances are this is not the first time. This is only the first time he has been caught. Pedophiles never stop and he has probably destroyed the psychological well being of a lot of children in his 77 years. He has been lucky. But his victims have not.

  7. Maybe it was something he always wanted to do, but was able to control the impulse, until the aging process took over his brain.

  8. You're only assuming that he's led a crime free life. A lot of people do commit illegal acts and manage to get away with them. We may have such a situation here. Remember, with this type of crime victims are often too ashamed to come forward or, if they do tell people, they are not believed.

  9. Sometimes, light gets into a shadow and the shadow is no longer

dark, therefore what was once in the dark is in the light and can be seen.  Apparently this was either a fantasy played out in  real life or a practice which just got discovered and is no longer a secret, in either case the minor is the victim and not the 77 year old!

  10. Alzheimers

  11. Maybe he was never caught before

  12. It is unlikely that this was his first offense.  Having worked closely with s*x offenders on probation as a Probation Officer, I can attest that the vast majority of the offenders were not caught on their FIRST offense.

Many and I mean many have been offending for years, but have managed to keep the offenses from being noticed or from getting caught.

That is the tricky part of dealing with s*x offenders and why s*x offenders are so difficult to work with / rehabilitate.

  13. They probably have done it in the past, but nobody ever talked about it. Or could be that they think they will get leniency because of their advanced age.  Or it could be that they got a little pill happy with the Viagra?
