Today I saw an unmarked sherriff come to my neighbors door and when he got near the door I saw him duck down really low, quickly go to the door and shove an envelope through their slot - why would that be? What kind of trouble could they be in that that are getting a sherriff to sneak papers through their door?

Just wondering, and a bit worried.

  1. Foreclosure, court appearance, anything possible. He probably don't want to hear what the people have to say, hes only the messenger.

  2. Wow....... That only means 2 things...... Eviction notice or search warrent...be  carefull

  3. Honestly, you are being nosy and your assuming the worst. If you are so curious, why not go ask them? If you don't have the guts to do it, move on and find some of our own matters to focus on....

  4. It was obviously not anything that needed to be actioned immediately such as a search warrant or eviction notice like the other poster said.  Each of those documents are time sensitive and must be actioned when served.

If it wasn`t something personal, which it may very well have been, it`s possible that it was some sort of a preliminary notice or some other administrative paperwork that just needed to be delivered.

  5. When a sheriff has to serve papers he can do it by personal service or, in some cases, by leaving it at the home of the person to be served.  It could be any sort or court document or it could be an invitation to the annual sheriff's ball.

  6. That could be a special process server, not a sheriff. Most likely, those people had been attempting to avoid being served, so the person suing them had to hire help outside of the sheriff. Process servers are getting paid a lot more and are appointed by the court... they can pull out tricks like that. Our guy has climbed through open windows before to serve a defendant.

  7. Process server.  Not always a big deal.  Could be as small as a civil court suit.

  8. It could be anything.  Criminal or Civil.  And once people see someone coming to serve them, they often run or do not open the door, that is why he hid.

  9. He probably thought no one was home, and he didnt want to invade anybodys  privacy

  10. thats wierd...  really don't know ask your neighbor
