  1. Adonis was the extremely handsome diety of rebirth and vegetation. For a young man to be called Adonis, it would mean that he is very good-looking.

Adonis was fought over be Aphrodite and Persphone, so the muse, Calliope, had to settle things for them; she decided that Adonis would spend four months with Persephone and four months with Aphrodite. The remaining two months were up to him.

  2. Present:  It is an attribute of perfect male beauty.

Past;  He was the lover of Aphrodite, he was honored in the spring, he was known for his boyish  and effiminate looks and actions.  He was killed, and weeped over, and brought back to this world by the graces of Aphrodite, it was a great honor to be chosen for the rite and serve at temple.  It was a reenactment of winter into spring.

  3. Did you look up Adonis?

He is the epitome of greek male beauty, so much so that Persephone and Aphrodite fought over him, even as a child.

So if you see a young man that makes your jaw drop because of how drop dead gorgeous he is, you could call him an Adonis.

  4. Being called an Adonis would mean the man is young, extremely handsome and desirable by women.  That was basically the description of Adonis (the Greek God).  The cult of Adonis was populated by women.  And Adonis' looks were perfection.
