Why would a young woman suddenly stop having her period for five months or more?

I'm not pregnant and I only had a very light period exactly one month ago that was so light I didn't need to use pads. I was wondering if any infections with the urethra or a uti could cause problems with this. I am going to be going to a doctor, but I still wanted to know what other women thought or knew about this. Thanks.

  1. Are you on any kind of birth control? That could be the cause.

  2. If you recently got involved in any sports or working out a lot that could be the cause of it. Also if you are underweight and not eating healthy that could be another cause of it.

  3. Everything has causes.

    In general delay could be in following cases:

    1. pregnancy (pregnancy tests will discover);

    2. reaction to stress, illness, emotional situations, medication, inflammation of genital organs, etc. (evaluate your life);

    3. wrong use of hormones (including pills);

    4. dramatic weight change (during short period);

    5. menstrual disorder called oligomenorrhea (duration of the cycle more than 40 days, it could be treated in many cases with birth control pills but better to visit your doctor) Discover more below

  4. I really don't know about this but, I'm going to give it a whirl, it might be because you might not have enough hormones in your body to produce a period. Do you drink or eat any dairy or eggs? You might want to talk to your gynecologist to see if you have a diagnosis  called Polyoystic Ovarian Syndrome, but don't get all worked up if your diagnosed with it because there are lots of treatments for this diagnosis.
