Question:

Why would an Omnipotent Deity (God) need a day of rest after creating the universe? Was it to catch the game?

Or go fishing? What? He has the rest of eternity to rest. It seems rather incompetent. It doesn't make ANY sense. Omnipotence doesn't require the luxury or distraction of a "day of rest".

  1. lol I have to laugh.  The 7th day was meant for everyone to rest.  God realized that from the get go.  He actually made the 7th day as a day to worship Him and rest from daily activities.

Makes me thankful we didn't get a "workhorse" God like my employer that seems to think I never need a vacation!

  2. It's all in the foreshadowing. What it really means is he dedicated a day for all of man to come and pay him their hard earned cash so the religious types can have more sparkly gold treasures in their massive palaces.

  3. It's not that He needed to rest.  It's that He was setting the pattern of a day of rest for us.

He made it official when He put it in the 10 Commandments.  The world was created perfectly for us as humans and He established the Laws of Nature and His covenant with His people in His Word.  It is for our benefit, as Jesus explained further in the New Testament "The Sabbath is for man, man is not for the Sabbath".

  4. I don't take everything in Genesis literally, and I think it was just a way of saying that if God takes a day of rest, as powerful as he is, people need a day of 'rest' and a day off of work for worship of God.

I don't believe in a literal day in earth terms. Maybe he is resting now, waiting for the 2nd coming. I believe in the Bible's teachings but not everything literally. Many things are symbolic.

  5. It was a lesson to us that we need a day of rest.  We cannot be always working without taking a break.  Also God was able to rest because he finished his job.  It is a lesson that if we finish our job, we can rest.

As for God wanting to catch the game, there is no point since he would already know who would win.

  6. You know I love to answer your questions!!! He didn't need the day off, it was to teach us about the Sabbath day!!!! See it took God all of the Old Testament to tell us he was going to send his only Son all 39 books. Because he knew people like you would have questions so he thought he would let Christians or his children to teach you what these things meant because we read with an open heart.

    Hope this Helped   God Bless

  7. For the same reason that gods have voices, can see, hear and touch someone: because gods are a manifested creation of human beings and anthropomorphism is required to validate the creation in order to generate a loyal following.

  8. NEED???

    Never, not my Lord!

Everyone should take one day out of the week to relax and thank the Lord for everything!

You are right Omnipotent does NOT require rest, HOWEVER isnt it a beautiful thing to know that EVEN the ALMIGHTY and POWERFUL GOD will even rest. It assures me that I am not doing anything wrong by taking a day of REST!

  10. That is his weekly card game with Satan and McCain(also around since the very beginning of time it turns out)

  11. Do you work 7 days a week?  Don't you have a day off?  Your question sound like it was asked by a 2 year old and you don't make any sense.

  12. as the first answer stated, it didn't say he needed to rest. Maybe he wanted to reflect on what he had made? Look at the glory he created, before humans covered the earth in concrete.

  13. no it was to watch South Park and Chappelle's show.

  14. He rested,  nothing says He needed to rest.

  15. I don't know, but I'm glad He did.  I'm not sure we'd get weekends off otherwise.

  16. A day of rest meant that he was done with creation.

  17. That day of rest, was to give mankind the time they needed to s***w it up!!!

  18. he did not need rest  that was   just so  we can see that we need it.

  19. You would think he could do it in a second if he was all powerful? A whole week? Come on!

    Deist

  20. the game guy. if you think the army navy game is fun, you should watch the angels deamons game.

  21. h**l if I know. I don't even get a day off.

  22. true but  seams like god is still resting....

  23. He spent that day blowing up balloons for the celebration.

  24. He did it so we could watch the NFL on sunday.  Praise his heavenly greatness.

  25. God did not rest because He was tired. God rested to set an example for us.

How do parents raise their kids? They set an example

How does God raise His followers? He sets an example. God showed us by example to rest at least 1 day out of the week. Cultures that have a day of rest have substantially increased productivity than cultures that work 7 days a week.

  26. The reason why God rested on the 7th day was to SET AN EXAMPLE. We are told to keep the Sabbath Day (the 7th day) holy, and so God does the same thing. He would not tell us to do something and act differently himself.

Also, a "day" in Genesis doesn't mean an actual 24 hour day, as we know it. It is just a way of defining a certain time period. For example, the "time period" which it took to create the animals, was called a "day". Come on, use common sense here...

  27. And even more importantly, why did it take him 6 days to do it in?

    All-powerful...but with limits???

  28. what are you even trying to say? you think God is weak or that he has limitations. He rested in the terms he was done creating, the problem is the difference in terms. why do people have to make fun of the bible without any knowledge?
