Why would an electric furnace heating system utilize a two-stage thermostat?

  1. One for heating and the other to run just the fan to circulate air only.


  2. A 2 stage thermostat is used if your electric heater is designed for 2 different heat settings... for example say you have a total of 20 kw worth of heat in your furnace... If your heater is split into 2- 10 kw heat strips, the thermostat will call for the first 10 kw heat strip to come on... Now after a certain amount of  time if the house doesn't warm up enough, it will call for the second heat strip to come on until the thermostat is satisfied, and shuts off both heat strips... Now running both heat strips uses more power than just one, so if the thermostat can satisfy the room tempature by using only one heat strip, it will save you money on your utility bills...
