  1. If you mean a medical examiner on a medicallegal case, there are many reasons.

    A typical autopsy report takes several months to complete.  In the meantime, a death certificate usually lists the cause of death as 'pending'.

    Even when the report is issued, it is usually only accessible to the immediate family.

    If you mean something else, you question is too vague.


  2. Because the dead and their surviving families have a right to privacy, just like you do.  In some cases, they are legally required to release information, even against their better judgement.  

    Would you want the world to know personal information about you?  That you had commited suicide, for instance?
