  1. anyone's opinions, likes and dislikes rarely have anything to do with religion. Some people are annoyed by people who define their differences through sexuality alone.

  2. You seem to think in broad generalities. Perhaps you should read an introductory book on anthropology. It would do much for your simplistic thinking.

  3. Because they think that what homosexuals do is wrong, unnatural, and abnormal.

  4. Homophobic atheist with g*y tendencies, maybe.

  5. Because the argument against same s*x marriage can be based upon reasons other than religion.  My BIGGEST opposition to same s*x marriage is that it's being forced on Society by courts.  SOCIETY defined marriage and decided to give privelege to some relationships over others...SOCIETY, not the courts, are the actuators to change...or should be.

  6. homophobes come in all shapes, sizes, colours and creeds.

  7. i have never met one.

    -_-

  8. Someone can be a traditionalist without being religious. They would not base their argument on the bible but on how things are done. Lots of people are afraid of change, not just religious people.

  9. You don't have to be religious to believe that something is wrong.  I am not completely against being g*y, but I do think it is unnatural.  Nature intended for a man and a woman to be together (sexually).

Although I do have to say that I can see why one woman would want to be with another woman, men can be disgusting pigs.  :)

  10. I oppose it, but it has nothing to do with morality: it is simply a matter of preserving the classical meaning of the word "marriage", which has always referred to a heterosexual union.  Civil unions, giving the partners the same rights and responsibilities as marriage, suit me fine.

  11. there are bigots in all walks of life...its a simple lack of understanding and closed mindedness...

  12. Homaphobes come from all backgrounds. It could be something that happened to him- maybe he was molested by a man when he was a kid. Maybe he is in the closet. Who knows?

  13. there are some g*y people against g*y marriage... usually because they don't agree with the institution of marriage and would like a better system. they're not homophobic at all.

EDIT to the poster below me:

"HOMOSEXUALS ARE NOT HUMANS, animals are much, much better than them!"

that's a disgusting thing to say. i hope you grow up soon and open your mind.

  14. Religion & Science are both means by which we can find truth, which is one. 'Truth' is an account of every aspect of reality. For you, a Christian, that is 'creation'. If you believe in the Creator, you probably realize that He cannot be known directly. It is not in the nature of the infinite to descend to be contained in the finite, as in your finite knowledge and understanding.

Atheists may discard one of these means of reaching truth, but the human need for truth and meaning is overpowering. Atheists thus attempt to examine reality with scientific thought and reason, and anyone should try to do at least as much. However, religious and scientific thinking must temper each other.

SInce the bulk of the scientic method is empirical, those people who rely on it heavily or exclusively cannot help but notice what is happening around them in society, and make generalizations from these things, and even work out personal codes of ethics that can be very sophisticated, and occasionally quite austere.

For example, I had an atheistic friend who was of the opinion that abortion is murder, even though you might think that 'murder' should not mean much to someone who does not believe in (let's call it...) 'ultimate accountability'.

(He also believed that abortion should be permitted... on the condition that the errant parents be 'fixed' such that they could not have s*x anymore... See what I mean about 'personal codes of ethics'.)

These ethical systems develop even among people who are unaware of the Creator, indifferent to His possible existence, or utterly convinced that He is an anachronistic fable.

    Why?

Those among them who diligently apply the scientific method to create their own satisfactory approximation of truth cannot fail to pick up on... some of the truth.

'The truth' is a story about reality that works, to the best of our ability to test it, and that helps us live.

People who love and always prefer truth are plainly the ones you would want for neighbours in your society.

People with more elastic notions of truth, who do not respect it much, or who even denounce it (no names here, please) are the ones you would dread having at close quarters, the ones you would not leave your kids with for the day.

Why might some of them disfavour paederastic marriages (while probably not wishing for society to intervene in the underlying relationships)?

I expect that the reason is that they have picked up empirical evidence that suggests that there is something about such marriages that does not promote truth in society.

While the old way of closeting such relationships was also quite dishonest, it might not be too hard to show that these marriages muddy the waters in fresh and exciting ways.

That is, it might have something to do with their kids, and who they want to leave them with for the day, or it may have something to do with the compatibility of the marital institution with homersexuality, or with the logical consistency of homersexuality itself.

You should catch one of these people, and ask them. I'd like to know.

  15. I dont know, but I'll just praise the Lord that atleast, those who object such unnatural things have a piece of mind!

1 Corinthians 6:9,10- What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor MEN WHO LIE WITH MEN, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom.

Romans 1:26,27- That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one CONTRARY TO NATURE; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, MALES WITH MALES, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.

  16. I just don't like seeing g*y men. I don't want gayness to be so common and acceptable that my son might turn g*y (If I ever have one).

I'm cool with lesbians though, thats s**y.

  17. I'll preface my answer by saying that there's no *good* reason to be against g*y marriage. However, what I've seen from those who think they've found a good, non-religious reason:

1 - It's unnatural; we, as a species, only continue by sexual reproduction. Homosexuals cannot continue our species; therefore, unions between them should not be sanctioned. Some argue that homosexuality should be classified as a psychosexual disorder.

My response: It's also unnatural to shower, wear clothing, drive cars, and take medications. Just because something is "natural" doesn't mean that it's the standard of perfection.

Regarding treating homosexuality as a disorder, the DSM is explicit that a disorder may only be categorized if it causes a problem in the life of the individual. While a homosexual may need to deal with discrimination, it is not the fact of having a same-s*x preference that difficulties are encountered. It is, instead, the responses from the bigots still existing in our society.

2 -"Marriage" is a state of affairs between a man and a woman; if homosexuals want a union, it should have a different name.

My response: This might be acceptable...if it were written in law that a "homosexual union" (by whatever name we might wish to call it) would be afforded all of the same rights and privileges as a married couple. The proponents of this reason rarely, in my experience, actually state this.

3 - Personal discomfort; an individual who is uncomfortable, for any number of reasons, may not like the culture shifting towards acceptance.

My response to somebody who holds this reason: "The world doesn't revolve around you. Grow up."

4 - Homosexuality is just a phase that people go through. Marriages is supposed to be until death. Therefore, homosexual marriages are encouraging people to hang on to something that should pass.

My response: essentially, this is the same as the first argument, except that it's considered a temporary circumstance. It's "healthy" or "normal" when a person's young, but "bad" if the person doesn't "grow out" of it.

While I'm sure that there are many people who experiment before settling with heterosexual relationships, there's no evidence that homosexuality is only "supposed" to be temporary. In addition, all of my arguments against the first "reason" applies to this as well.

  18. because some of them are uncomfortable about g**s

  19. They could believe homosexuality and marriage are wrong without going by Bible code.

  20. Belief in God is the dumbest reason homosexuals should not have marriage equality.

    Not the only one.

    *edit*

re:  civil union better option answer

When homosexuals asked for civil unions, the right-wing/christian homophobes insisted that we shouldn't have to make "special" laws just for a small segment of society.  When homosexuals asked for marriage equality<so that special laws didn't have to be passed just for them>, those same people insist that it's a sin.

That is proof positive that it isn't about the sin... or making special laws... it's about discriminating...  and using any means necessary to do so.
