Question:

Why would anyone able to remember the 80s and 90s trust a Tory?

They inflicted huge damage upon both the Health Service and the Education system. The economy was in a far worse state than now. Thatcher congratulated the S African Government on holding Mandela in jail and called him a terrorist. g**s were treated as second class citizens. The miners were treated as if they were enemies of the state. There was no minimum wage. Unemployment was through the roof and people lost their houses because inflation was so high that they could no longer pay their mortgages.

Doubt that they have improved.

  1. The problem is precisely that a number of the electorate either have short term memories or (increasingly) are too young to remember the 80s/early 90s.

New Labour adopted the major Tory policies (such as privatisation) and a number of problems today are not due to specifically New Labour, as a number of people on this forum appear to think, but the political philosophy to which Thatcher's Tories and New Labour signed up to, notably neo-liberal economics.

  2. I see there are still plenty of labour luvvies/communists/lefties lurking about.

Try going and having a look at what labour "achieved" before the Tories got into power - its going that way now.

  3. silly lefty

i graduated in politics, and this was a period i studied in depth. your statement is not based on fact, rather bad memories and heresay.

    sorry

the 80's were a different time if you are talking about social differences. move on!

  4. What happened in the 80's was a result of what happened in the 70's, more so the Labour Govt then. The boom of the 90's and early 00's was a result of the Thatcher Government that pulled the UK out of the mess it was in, yes there had to be some sacrifices but look at the end result?

Now Labour have taken us back into the 70's where everybody is classed as an enemy of the state, immigrants are being offered jobs for less than the NMW, unemployment is on the increase as more and more companies shut up shop here to set up in India or China, "Positive" Discrimination legislation (white straight males are being victimised and demonised by labour), Human Rights for Islamic Terrorists, homes are being repossesed because people can't afford their mortgage and FTB-ers are non-existent.

I hate Thatcher and the Tories but they were the bitter pill we had to swallow to pull the country out of the gutter, certainly Camo isn't anywhere near a great a statesman as Thatcher and certainly doesn't have her guts and determination, thats why I don't think a Tory Govt (or any Govt at that) can resolve this mess that New Labour have got us in (again). It's gonna take at least 10 years of hardship for any Govt to try and put right what Labour did wrong.

I can gaurantee you that I plan to assist in wiping New Liebour off the political map in 2010. No longer will Labour be a scourge to the hard-working British people ever again.

  5. Because anything is better than the current Labour scum.

  6. For the same reason that people who could remember the 60's and 70's voted for Labour in 1997.

  7. Read your history books again. I mean the real ones not propaganda sheets. For the first 5 years the Labour Government followed Tory practices and only started to go wrong when they did not. it may interest you to know the the economy was knackered about 3/4 years ago and it is only just beginning to show through now.

I want the Tories to have a good but not overwhelming majority to keep them on their toes. Labour have had it to easy for too long

  8. Do you want to stay poor all your life? Grow up, Whats your name? Ken Livingstone?

  9. those were the days

  10. So no difference now then -

    Council Tax more than doubled

    Fuel tax at 80+%

    Failing NHS

    Failing schools

    No dentists

Inflation rising (while Labour help themselves to new kitchens from 'expenses'.

    Immigration out of control

Thousands of foreign criminals set free from prison and not sent back.

English taxes being sent to support Scotland and Wales

    Housebuilding in decline

Do I need to go on - what you actually refer (in the mainstream) is the clear up after the Labour government of the time - much the same as is going to happen again soon. Remember - Wilson jumped ship (as has Blair) and allowed his successor, Callaghan to take the blame. It will happen again, soon!! And good riddance to the Scottish Labour Party in England.

  11. Go on then vote bloody Tory and see what you get.!!!

  12. All that what you are talking about was caused by Labour in the 70's, the tories under thatcher ran the country pretty well, until the end when Thatcher made the biggest mistake any prime minister could make, which was called the Poll Tax.

  13. I simply don't agree with that analysis - it is a leading question.
