  1. I honestly have no idea. I guess it's either because they're incredibly indoctrinated and genuinely believe paying money will save the planet or they're people like Al Gore who try to look environmentally friendly.

  2. To throw away their money.

  3. It is a "loophole clause" for those countries that cannot cleanup right away,(so in otherwords an excuse to continue to do nothing to reduce their CO2 output)

  4. Cause they're a bunch of Ninnies

  5. I'd spend all my money on carbon credits, because like any other good investment they will only rise in price.  When the time's right I'd sell 'em to the alarmists, and buy a big gas-guzzler and private jet with the profits!

After all...it's all politics and corruption anyhow.

  6. Carbon credits are an interesting concept. You can pay for every tonne of greenhouse gas emissions you cause.

There are two ways of looking at them. First, as many of your answers rightly point out, people should not be allowed to get off so lightly from polluting the environment. Making it possible to pay for your sins kind of trivialises those sins...

The second way of looking at carbon credits is more positive -- they spur people to make money by going greener. Its a far cry from even five years ago, when cleaner, greener businesses were also more expensive to run. This is the point of view I'd `buy' -- So fine, I pay for my sins when I ride a plane, but if my money goes to help someone with a super, eco-friendly project,  then there's something good in it after all!

  7. If you had a highly polluting plant it would be cheaper for you to buy Carbon Credits then to reduce the pollution made by the plant.

It does keep pollution high and should not be allowed.

  8. Because they feel guilty.

  9. Unfortunately the reason is because not everyone gives a sh*t enough about the way we leave the earth for future generations to go outside once a month and clean waters, reforest clear-cut lands, and educate the ignorant about their daily actions.

So, those people that do care (like me) offer financial support to dedicated organizations so they can plant trees, clean our waters, and educate the public.

It's not as much about feeling good as it is about supporting people that are working to clean your mess up.

  10. My father owns a company called Carbon Concious, and he is very smart because of it. Many Ecofreaks and Treehuggers want to protect the environment as much as they can, and that is one of the ways. If you ask me it's lots of money you pay to feel good about yourself. And that's why it's genius

  11. As a very feeble attempt to hide their obvious hypocrisy.
