Why would anyone choose an American Express card?

They are accepted far fewer places than Visa or Mastercard? Is there some advantage to having an American Express card that makes up for this? I just don't see why people get those cards.

  1. Their main customers are businesses.  When a salesman needs to go to another city, he needs to know that he can just order up a plane ticket and reserve a hotel without worrying about his limit.  Plus, every authorized user get a different card number, so the accounting people can track expenses.  These are services that most individuals don't need.

  2. I have an American Express Blue card because they were the only ones who gave me credit when I became of age. The Blue is a great card, no annual fee, 0% on balance transfers and purchases for 15 mos, free rewards, and low interest rate. However, if you pay balance in full every month the interest rate doesn't really matter.

As far as not being accepted in many places, that is true. However, you probably should have atleast two credit cards one visa or master and either an American Express or Discover. This is in case of an emergency and is not one is not accepted or declined for some reason.

Overall I like AMEX's customer service and my experience has been good.

I have an AMEX and two Visas.

    Later man.

  3. Status, Prestige, Great Perks, the Creme de la Creme of Credit cards.  Most people want them just to have even if they don't use it.  Top of the Line.

  4. all credit cards have special advantages anymore. Some Amex cards give you special rates such as air miles/cash back. Personally I have less issues with visa then any of the others.Amex card holders are usually people who travel a lot.

  5. most amex charge cardholders are very loyal to the company. i know a few people who don't go to certain places because they dont accept amex. amex charge cards such as the platinum and centurian (black card) carry a certain prestige element to them along with the perks that they carry. i think with the amex platinum alone you'll have to have excellent credit and be pulling in over 100k annually. and with the black card well i think you might of heard of it already.

  6. they are a status  - but i do not need any of that!!

  7. No spending limit, no finance charges.  It is a charge card, not a credit card.

You pay it off each month.
