Someone asked a question why someone would renounce Christianity. That got me to thinking why anyone would still want to be a Christian. What reasons do yo have for wanting to believe in God.

  1. Is a simple answer really. FEAR. Christians main way of getting peolple to join their religion is using fear and non-acceptence of others. If you are not Christian, then Christians will tell you how sinful you are, and tell you how you will slowly burn for ever. Eventually this scares you "because no one likes burning for ever =p" and you join the religion not out of love for Jesus, but because of fear of h**l.

  2. You will have to ask the Holy Spirit because He is the one who caused me to believe in God, it is not my own doing.

  3. you certainly are tenacious, that is honorable.

  4. The Word of God gives me complete full direction in life, purpose in life, its a manual for better living and ultimately rewards us with eternal life.

  5. because i believe that he died on the cross for me and i will respect that

  6. Since I answered that question too, I'll continue the theme.

I believe because I choose to believe...I made a choice to believe nearly 40 years ago.  My choice was NOT a decision (based on knowledge/evidence)...it was a choice that, in hindsight was based on Pascal's wager.  The only thing I knew was that there was NO WAY for me to know whether or not God exists...and either choice has some probability of being wrong. Choose to believe and if you're wrong, you lose nothing...choose not to believe and if you're wrong you lose everything.  Thing is, all the evidence in the world can't eliminate the probability of a wrong decision.

With that in mind, I haven't and never will renounce my belief in God or Jesus...and I think this is explained by basic psychology (attribution theory).  Once a person chooses to believe something, they look for evidence to support their belief...and can chalk up any contradictory evidence to an interpretation error.

For example, some parents make a choice early on that their child is a "good kid" (honest, hardworking, kind, smart, whatever)...and when another parent, a teacher or even one of the child's peers suggests their child has a problem (is bullying their child, is disobeying teachers, is struggling to keep up), the parents start citing evidence to show that their child "would never do those thing" and blame others for the problem (e.g., Susie is lying to get attention, the teacher hates my child because...).

Thus, when I look at all the things that others (you) might view as evidence that Christianity isn't the right decision, I don't question the message of Christ...I chalk it up to the influence of flawed and incomplete human perception of that message.

I can understand the "outsider" perspective too...I'm frequently embarassed to be associated even in name only with people that call themselves Christian and clearly haven't chosen to believe his message. ...and if I thought that the message they were sending was valid evidence to consider before making a decision to believe, then I probably wouldn't be a believer.

Fortunately, I figured out a long time ago that faith isn't a decision, it is a choice!...and I choose to believe Jesus is the truth and that no human being could ever be a perfect representative of his message.  Thus, while we both can see the flaws in the message of Christ that people spread, you view them as evidence that the message of Christ is false and I view them as evidence that human beings are inherently imperfect!

  7. The only logical, ethical prescription in a naturalistic world is utilitarianism.

But if you look at the God-less countries they are neither productive or too happy. Would I want to live in Sweden, work two days a week and pay 90% in taxes?

    All the best.

  8. Because if it wasn't for God we wouldn't have this world to live in and we wouldn't be here to enjoy our life

  9. Wanting to believe? No normal person wants to believe in a God. God exists and he is the Lord of us. He is Love. If there were no God, there would be nothing bad about murder, greed or sin..  to the person who wants absolute control.

Ever hear the song..   Everybody wants to rule the world..  isn't it a truthful phrase or not?

  10. Why not be a Christian? I am not restricted from doing anything an atheist can do. I choose to believe in God. What is the harm in that? Nothing.

  11. The same reasons you do not.

  12. Do you have a few days?

There is just nobody that compares to Jesus Christ. No matter what dark hole I'm in, He always comes through for me. Many don't believe that, and I don't get that state of mind. But then again, before I became a Christian I was doubtful and wondered myself. So whatever I will say, won't influence anyone, unless they are searching themselves. If a non believer finds himself in a crisis and firsthand witnesses the love shown to him by a Christian, he will understand what I'm saying. Understand that it's not the person they see, but God's love through that person. It is not words that change the mind, but action and example of living. Seeing someone losing their father and brother and yet still be full of hope and love. A friend whose daughter has cancer and the daughter showing a love for God that makes her face aglow, that is prove to me. And having God work His will in my life is more than evidence that He is the truth, the way and the life.

  13. Because I was allowed to make the decision for myself.  And God accepted me despite how much I had denied Him.  Jesus showed the depth of love and commitment He was willing to give for me.

  14. its the only religion to not be officially debunked regardless of what some guy posts and claims is the loophole that and its real no other religion has actual results ive seen miracles happen what more do you need

  15. You can read every book ever written, and learn that you know only the tiniest part of the truth about the world and its splendour.

Or you can read just the one book, and know everything.

    Which would you prefer?

  16. No doctor, no person on earth could heal me the way that Jesus has.  Doctors could only give me medication, but God gave me miracles of healing.  I will forever be grateful for all that He has done for me.

  17. I am still a Christian because I still believe in God and Jesus just as those who leave us leave because they no longer believe in Christ.

I wish you a peaceful day.

  18. I would like an answer to this question also. The reason why is that Christianity doesn't teach any true information about the make up of the soul, how to heal others, how to astral project, open the Chakras, how to telepathically communicate with "jesus" (I assume if he wants you to have a relationship with him he would want to communicate with you though in my opinion he is just a thought-form created by Christian occult adepts to distract humanity from its true purpose and keep all occult power in the hands of the chosen few) neither does christianity teach you about keeping your aura clean from negative energy around you, protecting yourself spiritually, walking on water. The truth is all humans can do what Jesus supposedly did and not anywhere in the bible does it teach us how to do these things. So there you go this is why I want to ask this question oh and I forgot to say telekinesis and levitation where in Christianity is that found?

  19. some people are not as fortunate as other and they find that their faith helps them through hard times. its really up to an individual person to believe in something. believing in God gives them inner peace/ personal gratification. its not really for you to judge what makes them what to be Christian.

  20. I love having a relationship with someone who loves me no matter what and cares for me like the Heavenly Father He is, someone who will forgive me even when I mess up big time, I also love knowing that the God who created everything and is soo big and mighty still loves me and cares for me. When I look up at the stars at night (doing that makes me feel especially small), its mind boggling to me that the One who made the stars still sees and loves me, as small as I am compared to the universe. I have many, many other reasons for believing in Christ but these are just a few. :)

  21. When something reeeeeaaallly bad happens to me and I get to feel helpless and alone I start thinking if there's God...

otherwise I'm born into Christianity, but I'm not religious and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

  22. Hello,

As someone who has doubted & disbelieved in God, and also believed in God I can tell you from personal experience.

I feel so much more happy, less depressed, and so much more now that I believe in God. It didn't come easy, but after lots of research and looking at all theories at how life began.

When I didn't believe in God, I got depressed often & wanted to die. "What is the point of living" I would say to myself. If we are going to die anyways, why suffer through this crappy life & see our loved ones die, struggle to make a living, suffer with diseases, and more. I was bitter, negative, sarcastic, and cynical.

But now I have a completely different perspective. Now I live life happy, because I trust and believe in a God, and feel as if the Bible is truth. I know feel like life is worth it, and has a purpose. The purpose is to fulfill God's will, and follow His way of living. I am more positive, so much happier, more focused, more motivated, more confident, and more secure about life.

That is why I believe in God, because I have lived the difference!

  23. Because we have been sold a sick and monster god.  Does this mean because people are sick liars, God really does not exist?

  24. Well if you want to look at it through an educated, and intellectual point of view, I submit an opposite question: Why would a person not?

Fact as defined by Google: a statement or assertion of verifiable information about something that is the case or has happened.

    keyword VERIFIABLE

Archaeological evidence proves through 25,000 archaeological sites that the bible is historically true.  It is in fact verifiable and verified to be true history.  And so is accepted by all major names of historians.

No other way of life (religion) has shaped the world in a divine manner.

America was founded because of people wishing to worship God and follow his divine Word.  And thus, because our roots are in fact Christian we have prospered.  And if you ever look at a time-line of America and measure its success militarily, economically, and politically. You would find on a graph chart, the curve to peak from the beginning and fall to the end.  As we abolish Christian doctrines from our constitution, and begin to take God out of our country and government you will see the slow decline of America to the point we are now in.

And this is just the historical proofs, which make an undeniable argument of his existence and work.

But that is not the scope of this answer.

It is to say with an intellectual point of view why I am still a Christian.  Why I think that you would be crazy to ignore historical FACTS. Verifiable proofs of its historical influence.

This is one of many reasons why you would still want to Christian.

Once again, I say how from a RATIONAL, HISTORICAL, or INTELLECTUAL point of view, can you say you do not want to be Christian.  I would feel stupid saying, "No I do not believe in facts, I do not believe in history."

If anyone needs more please feel free to contact me.  I have no problem backing my proofs.

  25. Why would anyone want to be an atheist?

  26. Because nothing in the Bible has ever been disproven, while very many things have been proven, historically and archaelogically.  It is the most scientifically verifiable historic document, and it says to believe in Christ.

  27. Why do I believe in my Lord and Savior?  Why wouldn't I.  I have experienced His love and forgiveness first hand.

What about you?  Have you ever thought about how you have transgressed his law?  Doesn't that concern you?  Haven't you lied?, disobeyed parents?, lusted?

Everytime you did those things, it was sin against a Holy God, who is also a righteous judge.  If you don't repent and trust Him as Lord and Savior, you're going to h**l.  If you want to repent & trust, go to  http://livingwaters.com/good/

  28. I for one knows God exists and how wonderful he is. So why would I in my right mind not worship my creator and Lord? He took me, a sinner, and made me a new creature. I once had a lot of hate towards God. No longer!
