  1. You may have a router capable of managing two internet connections.

A mac address is a hardware ID, an IP address is a software ID.

IP's can be changed, mac's cannot.

  2. because two computer were set manually for a static IP

instead of being set to automatically obtain IP

    on both machines

start > right click on Internet icon >go to properties>connections>lan settings set to automatic

then control panel>network connections>right click properties>>>in the center window scroll down to see Internet Protocol {TCP/IP} double click on it> obtain IP and DNS automatically

If the IP's must be static then find the two and change the last digit of ones' IP

i.e.: if both are 192.168.0.4 change one to192.168.0.5

    good luck

after you are done it would be wise to Start>run>cmd tye ipconfig /release <enter> ipconfig /renew <enter>

  3. Maybe two devices on your network have the same IP address?

  4. If you have a machine with a static IP, it could be causing this conflict when it comes on the network and another machine already has its IP.

  5. Mac addresses can't be shared so even though the address is the same it has to be treated as 2 different one to avoid conflicts.
