  1. they are cool we build them with or scouting group to cook meals, they us no energy( other than the materials needed to build them) and if looked after they can be reused on the campout

  2. Because it only uses the sun's energy to produce heat, it does not emit CO2 and is probably the most environmental-friendly way of cooking. I had to build one in a high school math class (yes, we had to calculate EVERYTHING, it took about an hour and a half to plan and make) Then we went outside the next class and cooked hot dogs and marshmallows =] Pretty neat experience!

  3. A solar oven in an apartment might seem impractical. Or dangerous.

A solar oven can allow one to cook food, even heat up rocks enough to cook food well after the sun has set.

It can also burn food or people.

But employed where there is no available fossil fuel, no electricity, it allows people to cook without stripping the hills bare of trees. It avoids burning the elephant or buffalo dung so allows for better soil fertility.

But then when one does have electricity, it allows  one to leave the electricity for tasks that may be difficult to do with direct solar energy.
