  1. Honestly, I'm not even 100% sure what's going on between Burke and Lowe....I know the basics and all, BUT I just don't care. I'm glad Bettman told them to stop.

  2. Bettman's altered perception of reality is that it's bad for the image of the sport.  Which, in his mind, means fewer corporate seats being sold and lower advertising revenue, at least in 'Hockey According to Bettman'.

Personally, I think it's hilarious.  Usually, it's players who do the trash talking.

  3. Listen

Burke said one thing. You are offering stupidly overpriced offer sheets. Legal yes, but stupid. There is not one fan who knows whats going on who didnt think. WHAT?!?! on the Vanek offer, then WHAT?!?!?! on the Penner offer. That is pretty much all Burke has said.

Lowe got personal offended burke, the nhl, the ducks, and basically took cheapshots and tried to discredit what he cannot do himself apparently.

Just sitting here on the outside, there is Lowe talking S, not about anything specific, just everything associated with Burke. And Burke correctly pointing to the fact that Perry just got to rape him during negotiations/discussions cause he is way better than Penner and therefore should be payed more than him.

  4. Because he is a control freak.

  5. Really? Hockey fans like that kind of stuff? Personally, I thought it got stupid after Burke's third comment. Yes, Brian, you don't like Kevin, WE GET IT.

  6. simple...Gary Bettman likes the Ducks but dislikes the Oilers.  Bettman allowed Brian Burke of the Ducks to continue ripping Kevin Lowe of the Oilers through the media for a year while a classy Lowe stays quiet.  But as soon as Lowe has had enough and fights fire with fire, Bettman steps in and tells the two to shut up.

Bettman needs to go!  I've always suspected that he favors teams like the Ducks, Devils, Coyotes, Thrashers, Panthers, Hurricanes, Lightning, Predators, and Blue Jackets over the other teams and this story only serves to add to that suspicion.

  7. I could care less about them, it doesnt reach american media besides internet, and they are making fools out of themselves, which they represent the nhl, and bettman doesnt want the nhl represented that way

  8. I think the league stepped in because Lowe started talking about what a crappy hockey market Anaheim plays in. Bad for business, the front office must figure.

It bugs me that Bettman didn't step in last year when this all began when Burke started the war after Lowe scooped up Penner under the restricted free agent rules. He couldn't match Lowe's offer because it would have cost him too much to pay other players on the Ducks in line with the Penner scale.

So Burke went on a long boring rant — the first of several directed at Lowe — about how Lowe was a lousy manager and bad for the economics of the league because he signed Penner. Never mind that the UFA rules are part of the league's collective bargaining agreement. For a year Lowe never fired back at Burke until last week when Burke blamed the Penner signing for all the inflated salaries handed out the past few weeks for free agents.

My question is why is Bettman putting a stop to the war now, instead of defending the league's UFA regulations and clamping down on Burke last year? Would it have anything to do with the fact that before he was a GM he worked in the NHL head office with Bettman?
