Just witnessed a large male chase, catch, bite and seemingly strangle to death a smaller male. He of course, didn't eat him, just dropped him to the ground. These are wild ones that live in the yard. At first I thought the big one was trying to catch a mate then I saw him bite and both lizzards were showing their "bubble". Guess it was male rivalry? Creepy to have watched. I don't interfere with the wildlife as a personal policy. That's why I didn't stop it in case your wondering.

  1. it is a teritory issue along with the fact is that your tank may have been to small for 2 anoles..

  2. Territory.

  3. You're right. It's a territory issue. The smaller male just didn't back down or back off soon enough to suit the larger of the two. When they do the head bob and display their dewlap it's their way of threatening rival males and laying claim to an area as well as showing off to the females.
